Why Is It So Hard to Switch Off Your Mind After Work?

Alexandre Bartoli · Psychologist · CRP 04/86889

The difficulty of switching off isn't a lack of discipline. It's a consequence of the nature of our work: complex problems, pressure to perform, and the expectation of constant availability. If you live abroad, you may also face the challenges of cultural adjustment and social isolation.

What I call a State of Constant Emotional Alert is when your mind remains on high alert, even after work. You never truly get to rest.

To help you better understand this process and explore ways to establish boundaries, I recorded a video on the topic.

In addition, I’ve made a free resource on Emotional Regulation available on my website, featuring practical guidance and exercises that can help you navigate everyday emotional challenges.
